Surveillance Systems???

I had a KX450fi dirt bike stolen from me last week and I do have camera's up with DVR. Wisecomm is the brand that I have, ain't bad if you already know what your looking at, its quite a security system all by itself, people just have to see it is there and they don't mess with anything, when I first got it some people didn't think it was real until they took some stuff one night and the next morning I walked right up to their pickups and the first one had what I was looking for.

Problem is the clarity is poor, especially at night, I can see everything that happened but I can't hardly make out any details about the person so basically all I can do is watch as someone steals my stuff

What are you guys using and in the case of theft was there enough from the camera to pin the person?

Any help appreciated, I need to upgrade apparently, I have about 1500 invested in what I have but I need something better to call it an investment

The best STS Model. the 9770

I have been shopping for some aftermarket concaves for
my STS combine, and was talking to one of the large
sellers of these. He knows all of the Deere combines
very well.

I told him I have a 9770, and he told me that is the
best STS combine that Deere has produced. The overall
efficiency, build and quality make it #1.

What do others think of that?

JD 4920 will not steer

2005 JD 4920 has steering issues. Steering got stiff once or twice but cleared up right away. And it works fine with autotrac engaged. Now it happened again but did not clear up. The oil is not getting through. We have tried a few things. We were told to try and Hold the boom raise switch in the raised position while steering, The steering works easily then, and the problem should be in the load sense circuit. If you find the problem to be related to the load sense meaning it works when running the boom Then the load sense shuttle valve(flow control hyd valve) in the combo valve is most likely faulty.
In john deere parts online this valve is #4. But it looks fine. There is a little ball inside that moves freely and all orifices are clean. Unless im missing something, I think it looks fine. I removed all other valves and orifices and all seem ok. So I am at a loss. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for any help

Seed hawk seed and fertilizer knives

I have to do a complete change of both my seed and fertilizer knives. Just wanted some opinions on the seed hawk knives with the replaceable tip. Dutch and atom jet also make aftermarket knives, so I am looking for thoughts on these as well.

These new knives have steel drop tubes. How are guys making out with these do they last a lot longer? Ar there any plugging issues with them? It would be nice not to have to get under and trim those rubber tubes every couple thousand acres.

The knives with rplaceable tips are about 50 bucks more a piece so to do my whole drill would be 5000 more , and the replacement tips when I do have to change them are close in price to the old style knife, so it appears as though you are buying convenience

I have all summer to figure it out, but thought I would throw it out there while everyone's experiences are fresh.

We lost a great man last night

I am very sad to post that 3krone was killed in a vehicle accident last night. Dan Lamb has been a GREAT friend to me for years and it has been a very rough day in the harvesting world as this news spread around the globe. He was sitting at a stop sign in his pickup and got rear ended by another pickup that was traveling fast and had not slowed at all. Words can not express my sympathy to the entire Lamb family and Lamb Chops harvesting company. Missing him already.

grain vac to fill bins

Hey everyone we are looking to tie our old dryer into our new system. Our new dryer fills bins with a dmc transfer air system we were thinking of adding a second air system but then got to thinking if we could use a grain vac so we dont need to spend a lot on wiring plus we would have the vac for clean up etc. Has anyone done anything like this and how does it work? It is only a 1000 bu batch dryer so we only need to move 250-500 bu per hr to keep ahead of the dryer. Also will they move wet corn? If so we would possibly use it to fill the dryer Thanks guys

Get The Most From Your Lead-Acid Batteries - Extend the Life 2x-3x

Lead- acid batteries have become a necessity in today’s society. Our cars, trucks, farm equipment and recreational vehicles all use batteries to start their engines and power accessories.

Forklifts, electric chairs, and off-grid power systems need lead-acid batteries to operate. Lead-acid batteries can be a hassle to replace and expensive, with some batteries costing up to $5000. To get the most out of your lead-acid batteries, follow these simple procedures.

1. Regularly charge your batteries. In deep cycle applications, you should charge after every use. Let them fully charge before disconnecting the charger.

2. Especially in cold environments, be sure to keep your batteries charged. If you leave an uncharged battery exposed to freezing temperatures, the battery will freeze and crack.

3. In warm environments, store cars and batteries in cool places or at least away from direct sun exposure.

4. Water batteries regularly if they are the unsealed type. Use distilled water only.

5. Do not equalize or overcharge your batteries as it deteriorates the integrity of the plates.

6. Do not use solid or liquid additives in your batteries.

7. PLEASE, DO NOT empty out the fluid in the battery and replace it with new battery acid. It is very harmful to our environment and it is not effective. The problem will not be solved because the sulfate crystals are on the plates and they will remain there even if you dumped the solution.

8. Use a good electronic desulfator that will help to eliminate hard sulfates from the plates.

The life and performance of a battery can be increased be keeping the hard sulfates off the plates.

Let me know if you have any questions about batteries and how I might be able to help.

Tips For Longer Farm Equipment Battery Life

1. Regularly charge your batteries. Let them fully charge before disconnecting the charger. With deep cycle batteries, even recharge after short usage.

Do not overfill. Most batteries have a tab at the bottom of the fill cap that will indicate the proper fill level.

5. Do not overcharge your batteries as it deteriorates the integrity of the plates.

6. Do not use solid or liquid additives in your batteries.

7. PLEASE, DO NOT empty out the fluid in the battery and replace it with new battery acid. It is very harmful to our environment and it is not effective in the long term.

8. Use a good electronic desulfator that will help to eliminate hard sulfates from the plates. The life and performance of a battery can be increased be keeping the hard sulfates off the plates.

9. For deep cycle applications, once a month, after a full charge and rest period, charge the system again. This will help to eliminate stratification.

10. Never mix old and new batteries without installing a Desulfator.

11. Keep the battery terminals clean, replace connections that are rotting.

What makes for nice small square bales?

I have a deere 24T small square baler. Overall, it gets hay into bales. They look like they could use a shave and a hair cut, but in the end they look a little shaggy.

Then a guy comes by with a NH 575 and makes these amazing perfect cube well shaven pretty looking small squares.

I was looking on Youtube and it seems to be about the same experience there. I watched several models of balers and something like the NH 316 makes a nicer bale than the 24T, not quite as nice as a 575.

Heston Inline balers seem to turn out pretty looking bales too.

Is it about how tight the screws are on the bale chamber? Speed+row thickness? Can you tune a NH 316 to make those perfect bales too?

Just wondering what the key to that is?

I'm thinking of entering some balse in a beauty contest. j/k.

Just recently purchased a S550 and would like to replace the chopper with a spreader. Parts doesn't show a bundle or whole goods for ordering one and no one in sales can come up with any solutions. Accutrack Ax5 hydraulic blocks??

I have an AX5 Accutrak, I cant find the model numbers for the hydraulic blocks I need.
Would any of you know the Hydraulic valves needed for a 876 versatile, Gleaner N6, Case 4000 swather, and a case 2290 tractor. I realize they all need the D03 sub plate. I am in the process of getting install manuals for all the equipment listed, but Farmtronics, who took over the customer support for Accurak, does not know the hydraulic blocks for individual models.

Have some $25 keg steakhouse cards to send your way, for each hydraulic block info given. my seed supplier gives at Christmas.

Raven 440

Looking for some help here. My controller is off nearly 1 gallon an acre. GPS Speed sensor seems to be accurate. This is my second year with this controller. Never had one prior to that. It doesn't seem to matter if I am applying 15 or 20 gallon an acre, it still is about a gallon heavy. Found this out at the end of the second round with about three hundred yards to go. No big deal after that I adjusted accordingly. I would like it to be right if I have the old man spraying and he sets it for 20 instead of 19. It may have been wrong last year I just never noticed because it was more accurate than I ever was

Any help is appreciated.

Anyone every tried a retrofit EFI kit for older gasoline engine

I recently found a company that offers kits to retrofit older gasoline engines, such as the 350, with a computer-controlled throttle-body EFI system at a fairly reasonable price. I'm tempted to buy one and try it on an old grain truck we use. I realize it would be cheaper to just clean the carberater, but I think it could be fun to see what the EFI kit could do with an old engine.

The Chevy 350 throttle-body EFI sytem from the mid nineties always worked well, and the EFI system is simple enough. This kit contains mostly Chevy parts from that system, with a custom ECU. This kit is also fairly simple. Replace the carb with the throttle body EFI kit, replace the vacuum advance distributor with an electronic one, add a couple of sensors, add a high pressure fuel pump, and hook it all up. The truck we have currently runs just fine, but it's a bit hard to start (dirty carb I'm sure) and always runs rich and stinky, which I'm sure the EFI kit would help with. Never having to adjust or clean the carb and it's needles would be nice.

Just wondering if anyone has seen this sort of thing before, and maybe tried it.

What foundation for under 9-12,000 bushel hopper bins

Thinking about buying a few hopper bins with skids. Have a clay soil that shrinks and swells as it gets wet and dry. My 1620 wheatland fertilizer bins with 10" of gravel under the skids will shift and require leveling about every 8 years. Seems like the south side of the bins thaws first in the spring from the sun.

Wondering what I would need for larger hopper bins with steel skids? Thicker gravel? Thin cement pad under the steel skid? Thicker cement donut under the steel skid?

Flat bottom bins are easy as they spread their weight out quite well. Hopper bins put a lot of weight in a very small area around the outside of the bin.

Are larger hopper bins better or worse for supporting? A bigger diameter would look to be more stable, but also more weight because the bin is usually larger.

I have heard of a few falling over, but never got a good reason as to why? Structural failure or poor site prep.

T9050 lack of power

Bought a N.H. T9050 H.D. scraper tractor last winter with 2000 hrs. Tractor runs fine, shifts fine but powers out. Acts like 300 hp not 485hp. New filters, new fuel pump, new pipe between turbos, old one was cracked, mechanic says fuel pressures are in range.Does not smoke. Running at high rpm with next to no weights, I keep shifting down gears but eventually it just powers out. The tractor should just spin out rather than power out. Is the ECU the problem? Any advice please.

Bourgault X20 monitor issue

A few times during seeding my X20 would act up. Mainly I couldn't use the touch screen. Pushing buttons, it would beep but not do what it should. Paging between cameras was where it would start. Trying to change rate on right side of menu was another. Cursor wouldn't be where it should be and couldn't push the button. A restart usually cleared problem.
There was also some times the drive box setting would seem way to high, I would drop the rate 1 lb and it would cut in half to where it should be. Example: 77 lbs seed rate was 65, 76 lbs seed rate was 30. 30 was the correct rate. 80 lbs seed rate was 32. strange.
I know neighbor has same issue, he disabled touch screen and is using mouse. I don't want to do that.
Are these monitors repairable, or is there an easy fix?

removing the dolly wheels from Air cart and hitching direct to tool bar

I have an old Horwood Bagshaw aircart, tow behind with a front caster wheel arrangement. The caster wheels are a pair of wheels on a walker beem. they are notorious for getting a wobble up over 15km/h
As I drive 20km between Properties, this is a problem.
I am wondering if I coudl remove the trike wheels all together and rest the air cart directly on my tool bar.
There is plenty of wheel on the toolbar to take the weight.
Has anyone done it or seen it??

Envizio acre tally gone wild!

So I've got a Envizio Pro II on my sprayer. It works great except recently the acre tally has gone off the deep end.:sFun_crazy4:
When I start a new job and go to the field operating screen the acre tally is already at a 6 digit number and climbing even before I start moving or spraying. It will just go crazy and keep climbing to the point that the numbers start to move outside of the oval icon the numbers are supposed to be inside of.
Otherwise, the rate control works perfectly along with the auto-steer, section control and auto-steer.
When it first started doing that I cleared all the old jobs from the memory. Usually when I have had other weird glitch problems, clearing the memory takes care of it. Not this time.
Any help would be appreciated!

Debating on weather or not to spray by barley with it ... Normally I do last year was first year in a while I did mainly because I was hurting for funds and showed no signs of tan spot or anything it was a really cool and wet ended up with best crops ever . Maybe they could have been better yet... I had pretty much made up my mind not to do it again ... Then I got a email. From a supplier that I normally do not buy from was advertising headline sc for 235 I called up my normall dealer they were still at 450. I told them I would by crap load from them if they could come close I think it is a no brainier at 235.. Not sure on 450... Of coarse I use to buy it for I think 550 ish if I rember correctly . Can't waite tell it goes to generic next year.... I think maybe they took inventory on how much they have out there and maybe with crop prices being lower consumption is down and they are worried about setting on a large inventory when possible there will be cheaper generic out there....anyone else buy any cheap headline?

Flexicoil 2340 low hydraulic pressure warning

Hey everyone,

We are getting a low hydraulic pressure warning on our drill. This causes the rollers to not turn. There is plenty of oil in the tractor, the fan runs fine (off the same hydraulic). Can't seem to figure it out. Tries checking the ground wiring, but that doesn't seem to be it.

Anyone have any ideas?

rolling peas

Just wondering what the best/ right stage is for rolling peas after they come up? I was told when they are 1 inch tall by one guy and 2 to 3 nodes by another. And time of day. Is 10 am too early? I was told not to start too early because peas are more fragile in the mornings.

new dozer / packing tractor

Would like to hear some opinions on this. The stx 425 has almost 6000 hours on it so we've been toying with the idea of updating it. Right now leaning towards a low houred t9040 or steiger 435 and keeping the current grouser blade but also considering a t9.505/560 or steiger 450 and new blade. Any advantages or disadvantages to the newer ones and how is the def usage going to be in this sort of application?

How to determine overlap with Greenstar?

When planting my ends or odd angles and im overlapping, the acreage counter continues to count what is actually being planted, which is great for seed estimations. But is there a way to have only the non-overlapped portion showed, so i can compare the numbers and have an actual figure to help me in justifying a new planter/row shutoffs?

Thank you

Vac planters in wet conditions

I'm sure a silly question but can you use jd vac planters in the rain?

We ran a 1700 this year in broad beans and didn't have much luck in the wet.

Even morning and night when it came in Dewey it started playing up. I'm pretty confident it was just seed counter issues, because the boxes still emptied evenly, but won't know till it comes up

canola reseed ?

so i have some canola that is coming spotty. seeded into heavy wheat straw with jd disc drill at 1inch. Some rows are up nice and some spots there is nothing and i can find the seed laying in the straw. I should have just set the drill at 1.5 inch and called it good. Should i replant the field at across the rows with a light rate of like 3 lbs or will the seeds start if we get wet for awhile?

Sprayer choices?

We currently run a 4830,it's been ok, but it's had it's fair share of issues also. Lots of cracking on the boom, and every year we blow at least two hydraulic lines. Our 4710 before it was bulletproof, but now I'm considering the big new holland with front boom and 1600 gallon tank. Anybody out there run both lately? What's the chemical like on the sprayer and in the cab on the new holland? Are the new deeres better? Been hearing they are underpowered?

I don't mind someone making a little money off me but come on agco that is way out of line.

9770 moisture sensor "too hot" fault

On our 9770 sts the moisture sensor plunger became bent and blew a fuse last harvest season. We have just not gotten around to addressing problems for this year. Today after removing the unit and replacing the plunger and relays and verifying the motor worked the unit was put back in the machine. Upon restart the monitor gave a code hmm 211 "moisture sensor too hot"
any ideas guys?

fertalzier spreader bar for airseeder

My seeder is currently single shoot. The cart is setup for double shoot. I have been considering putting a fertilizer spreader bar on the front of the seeder. I am sure I have seen this before. Wondering if anyone has done this and has pics or links? Is it better to simple add in the whole second shoot system, change tips and all and go double shoot? Lots of the ground I farm can get very hard and concerned anything wider than my narrow stealth tips won't go in or just pull up huge clumps. A spreader bar for urea sounds very simple. At least the idea, I just don't want to design it a couple time before it works.

3320 bourgoult or JD 1830

Hey everyone I'm trading of my 1830 to get into a newer machine. I custom seed 9000acres from grain farm land to feedlots fields. Lots of stumble, average ground to heavliey cultivated soft fields to hard packed swath grazing fields. I was looking at a 66 or 76 foot 3320 keeping my JD tow between 430bushel cart and twin 1500 NH3 wagon. What do people recommend? I see rough to smooth fields, hills, washouts badger holes. You name it I seed it basically and rocky land also. Will a 3320 stand up and last for more the a couple years with minimal matience? And anybody running a tow between cart with the 3320 high float option?

Max dry fertilizer rates with seedhawk SCT

Has anyone found a max amount of dry fertilizer that you can put through a seedhawk without plugging the primary hoses solid? Twice today, after seeding 1100 ac of canola with 295 lbs of fertilizer with no plugging, I've plugged the primaries including the aluminum tubes right at the rollers. After plugging the primaries going to the far outside towers during the first 80 acres of the canola, I geared down to 4.1 mph from 4.5. No issues until today. So now I'll gear down more and maybe even turn down the rate. Hydraulic for fan is maxed out. My only thought that the plugging must start when there is more hydraulics used when the openers are raised/lowered, resulting in the fan to drop rpms. This is in a 60', 12" spacing SCT.

Floor Heat

Hi all,
I noticed there is quite a bit of floor heat discussions on this board. I am the sales/marketing manager at Heat Innovations in Winkler Manitoba. We have an extremely knowledgeable team of CIPH certified hydronic designers and technicians and we're eager to help. For those DIY'ers out there, we also prefabricate boiler boards and make the install very simple. We pride ourselves on doing it RIGHT and pricing it right as well.

I saw a few threads where there was mixed reviews, some people stating that it was awesome, and some stating that its not good and never shuts off in winter. That would simply be the case of not having the system designed properly. In anycase, i'm here to help if you guys have any questions.

R42

We just bought a 1992 R42, what size grain head will work best? From what I understand only a 500 or 800 series will work on this machine. We have an opportunity to purchase a 1998 815 grain head. I know you have to keep this machine full for it to work best. We farm smaller acreage so speed is not an issue for us. what size heads are other R42 owners running?
Thanks

S68 in Canola

Got a new S68 last season, had terrible luck with it all season and really not looking forward to running it again but I might have to. I have heard there are some feeder house mods to try and feed canola. Any details on what they are doing? Cost to do it? Can you get a 'kit' for it? I think its insane the amount of mods you have to do to a new machine to get it to perform but it needs all the help it can get. I use a macdon not a dynaflex and after trying a dynaflex I will not own one so if thats the only cure I'm not interested.. That suggestion has been brought to me already. I did put the latest feeding kit from macdon on my header last season as well and it helped.

How's your crops looking?

How's everybody's crop look so far? I know alot of guys have have been having moisture issues and drought out west. Our crops have been really slow to get going but are starting to to look pretty good, not up high yet but nice even germ and nice rows starting to appear. Had so many consecutive wet springs here almost forgot thats what a crop is suppose to look like when it comes up. Canola has been in a week now and its up out of the ground. Stiil got 550 acres of barley to go yet, gonna spray it first, its still really wet but will see what I can do with it. Been really lucky here, was worried at the start of spring because the water table is so high, everything was just borderline being able to even get out in the field. Luckily missed all the heavy rains and snow, if we had got 2 inches of rain we would likely have been finished. Still wont need any rain for 2-3 weeks. Off to the best start in alooooong time around here and actually excited about the crop already. Last year we we were seeding for one day by this time. Starting to sow on May 23rd into mud you know the end result isnt going to be good.

We just bought our first high clearance sprayer! SpraCoupe 7660. What does everyone think of these? Weak spots? What to watch for? Demoed it the other day, first time even driving one, seemed fairly intimidating and scary going 12 miles an hour! Not as relaxing as 5.5 mph in the 895 Versy and Flexicoil, but seems pretty nice.

Ord River Investment

Is this a good thing? Copied from the Austrailian. Sorry for the long read. But aren't our sugar producers already under pressure? Aren't we already supplying sorghum into China? Hasn't the Ord already been trialled and proven unviable? What's everyone's thoughts?
The Abbott government has chosen the Ord irrigation area in the remote East Kimberley as the centrepiece of its ambitious plans to develop wild northern Australia into a rich agricultural region supplying valuable food exports to Asia.

The government’s soon-to-be-released northern Australian policy white paper will include $140 million of federal funding to raise the height of the main spillway wall of the vast Lake Argyle by four metres, adding 50 per cent to its massive 10,670-gigalitre capac*ity.

The extra water will boost the amount of land below the Ord River dam that can be irrigated from the current 18,000 hectares to a potential 100,000ha, opening the way for further large-scale land development investment, cropping farm expansion and new food-processing ventures.

The federal government focus on the Ord region comes as Chinese company Shanghai Zhongfu, awarded the right two years ago to turn 13,000ha of scrub country into fertile new irrigated cropping fields northeast of Kunu*nurra, sowed its first crops this week.

The general manager of Zhongfu’s local subsidiary Kimberley Agricultural Investment, Jim Engelke, said KAI had spent more than $50m turning 5400ha of the Goomig expansion area into cropping country, clearing trees, building irrigation channels and levelling paddocks.

But the planned sugarcane crops cannot be sown, as without 30,000ha of canefields producing at least two million tonnes of sugar, the $425m sugar mill KAI had planned to build next year cannot proceed.

Instead, the plan has changed to grow grain and chia crops this year, sweet sorghum for distilling into the Chinese alcoholic drink baijiu and cotton for the next few years, and possibly sugarcane in the future if the Northern Territory and West Australian governments, with the agreement of Aboriginal traditional owners, speed up the release of new areas of pastoral land capable of being converted to irrigated farms.

“Sugar remains the long-term plan but you must have scale: agriculture requires long-term thinking,” Mr Engelke said yesterday, as vast black soil paddocks ringed by the Kimberley’s red rock hills were sown to sorghum.

“We need more land releases and we need Ord Stage 3 going ahead or sugar can’t happen; waiting for land releases isn’t about agriculture or northern development, it’s just government hold-ups.”

Peter Stubbs, the director of the Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project, said a government commitment to raising the spillway wall height, adding 5000GL of water to Lake Argyle — equivalent to an extra 10 Sydney Harbours — would droughtproof all future development of farmland and industries proposed for the Kununurra area that might need water.

Also set for funding is the dup*li*cation of the main Ord irriga*tion channel so it can carry enough water to supply 14,000ha more of potential farmland 60km northeast of Kununurra in the Territory, in the Keep River Plains, and a sealed road leading to this Ord Stage 3 farm expansion zone.

The 12,000ha of existing irrig*ated land in the Ord valley grows $100m of farm produce; but the arriv*al of Shanghai Zhongfu with $750m to spend, tripling the cropping area, building a $425m sugar and ethanol mill and developing Wyndham Port has given the remote* region cash, scale, a vision and new momentum.

“For the federal government, it means by spending just $140m raising the dam wall you get a pretty big bang for your buck,” Mr Stubbs said.

The federal budget included a $5 billion fund to be made available to help private investors and companies jointly develop vital infra*structure in Australia’s north, from roads, ports, irrigation channels, trains and airports to processing plants and bigger towns.

The two big game-changers for the Ord irrigation scheme — regularly branded an expensive taxpayer-funded white elephant in the 50 years since its development — have been the successful arrival of foreign investment in the form of KAI as the developers of its second-stage land expansion, and the changing recognition by traditional indigenous land owners that agricultural development and investment holds the key to future prosperity.

Just this week, two Chinese businessmen with significant funds to invest toured the Ord with Shanghai Zhongfu billionaire owner and president Wu Pui Ngai.

They were interested in investing in developing shallow Wyndham Port so it can take 30,000-tonne grain ships exporting sorghum and other grain crops to China; building abattoirs and feedlots; funding prawn processing plants or cotton gins, and priv*ately-owned freight rail lines.

Mustard seeds

Hi All,

First of all, I am very sorry if I shouldn't post here as my query is not related to industrial agricultural farming but more about personal gardening. It's my first time harvesting mustard seeds in my small garden and I need a bit of advice please.

The pods don't appear to be fully dry but are splitting and the seeds falling out. I've clipped off the pods that look like they're in the same position (before splitting) and I have stored them in a paper bag in a warm shed. The problem (i think) is that some of the seeds have already fallen out into the bag and they have a white part (sorry I don't know the name!) attached to the seed. i am worried that they are not ripe yet and might get mouldy in the bag. I have attached a photo of the seeds. Any input would be useful. Thank you, Moona.

Any preferences for liquid side bandig openers?

We have been applying 28-0-0 through our mid row banders but it is terribly corrosive, always seizing something up, even after we coat the disks with oil, loosen the scrapers and apply graphite to the bolts when we park the unit every spring.... thinking long and hard abt going back to a side band opener. I know it will be a lot more disturbance but hopefully less maintenance too.

Any likes / dislikes for the openers that are available out there?

Driving Truck home from Auction?

Hey guys. Bought a truck (Kenworth W900) on an online auction today by "accident." Now I need to know what I have to do paperwork wise to be legal. Don't currently have any trucks, but have my Class A CDL, so not worried about that. I'm thinking trip permit, insurance, and I'll have the title with me. Anything I'm missing? It'll be sitting for a while, so I have time to figure out actual licensing, DOT number, etc. when I get it home. FYI, it's about a 500 mile trip, on I-90 from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to my place about 15 miles west of Billings, Montana. Have several sets of scales to go through, so want to have all of my ducks in a row. Thanks.

So I just did a pre seed burn off with rndup and express pro. Original plan was to seed into wheat. But now my seed rep is asking me to grow some annual ryegrass on this field. Am I asking for trouble if I seed this? Or a wreck? Or will it be ok? Thanks

I'm new to the site. Sorry if this question has been addressed in the past, but reading 294 pages of posts didn't seem all that practical. I'm looking at upgrading to a newer/larger JD Combine, but I can't seem to find a page that shows specs and comparisons for combines. Tractordata.com is great for tractors, but is there a similar site for combines? Thanks for your help!

JD 9760 - Fire issues in chick peas

Hi all,
Have a 9760 JD and having trouble with fires (approximately every 300 yards) when harvesting chick peas.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and if so, how they resolved it!
The machine was purchased with a Midwest 40 foot crop hawk front fitted. It also has a stainless steel rice kit fitted to the internals.
A neighbour has a later model JD and can be working side by side with us and has minimal issues.
The best we can come up with as to a cause is the following:
1) Static electricity causing a spark (something to do with the stainless steel rice kit fitted)??
2) Alternator earth is intermittent causing a potential difference??
3) There is a potential difference between the front and the header - may be necessary to fit earthing straps from front to frame of header) assuming the pivot point for the front is not providing a reliable earth
4) Dust/fluff is igniting against the exhaust and dropping into the head. (We have wrapped the exhaust with insulated exhuast foil but has not resolved issue)
5) Oil in hydraulic pipes heating to a point causing dust/fluff to ignite (may need to change the grade of oil)
ANY suggestions/thoughts would be greatly appreciated

S7 series machines: Aftermarket parts?

I am looking at some repairs on my 2012 S67. Looks like I need feederhouse chains and sprockets (will probably do bearings while I'm there, as well as drum bearings), and I need to replace the cylinder bars in the concave area.

I called Harvest Services about their feederhouse chains and talked to a receptionist type person. She said they had nothing listed for an S series machine, only the R series machines. I was kind of surprised about that. Are the R series feederhouse chains the same as the S series? I believe I understand that newer S series machines have wider spaces between the slats in the feederhouse chain to increase feeder capacity? Are aftermarket chains that are available that way as well? Are there other options for after market chains if Harvest Services truly does not have one available?

What about cylinder bars? What about belts? Can you just measure the belts and buy them from somewhere else? Just trying to figure out how to most economically work on a combine and still get good reliability. Thanks.
S7 series machines: Aftermarket parts?

How worn can your feederhouse chain sprockets go without causing problems?

I recently purchased a 2012 Gleaner S67. It has 553 separator hours on it. The dealer is recommending replacing the feederhouse chain sprockets and they say when the feederhouse chain sprockets are replaced it's best to replace the chain at the same time because the old chain could chew up the new sprockets.

Just looking at it, I pretty much agree with them other than it seems pretty crazy to me that the feederhouse chain would only last 550 separator hours. Is that a normal period of time?

This machine has lateral tilt. Should you have 4 half links when the chain is new on the front feederhouse chain and 1 on the rear feederhouse chain?

Here are a few pictures of the sprockets. The Right side of these images is the front of the machine. Thanks.

Conserva Pak, Morris, Flexcoil

So have had a lot if time lately to think on the tractor. We have been running a Conserva Pak drill for the past 10 years plus and it's starting to get tired. So in the next couple years it will need to be replaced.

I was thinking of the possibility of combining brands trying to take the best from each.
Thinking of having a 1870 JD. We really like what the original conserva Pak shanks have given us. Even emergence and excellent seed placement. I here guys don't like setting the seed boots but it looks easier on the 1870 than the original.

Now thinking of putting a flexicoil tank in front of the 1870. TBT mandatory. I would have liked if JD would not have dicontinued conserva paks tank or I'd be going with another one. And reading a lot of the reviews on here about the 1910 kind of got me sceptical about them. There are not very many around this area. The reason for thinking flexicoil is that they are everywhere around here and haven't heard really anything bad about them.

Now the air delivery set up. Reading Steve's test on here has more or less confermed what I have always thought. Never like the ideas of towers. Why would u want the seed to go up when it's suppose to go down? For this reason I like what morris is thinking with there flat fans.

So just looking for input ideas. And also would like to here of maybe other combinations guys have gone with.

Zero turn mowers

I have just started looking for a new mower for the 5-6 acres around the yard. The sales people are saying that zero turn is the way to go. What is the opinion on that compared to the front deck with rear wheel steering? I looked at a Kubota ZD331 with 72" side discharge deck. It has the Kubota 1261 cc 3 cylinder diesel- 31 HP. Shaft drive to the deck and 2B powerband belts driving the deck outer blades. Pretty impressive machine at a decent price. Toro and Grasshopper also shaft drive their decks and most have hydraulic deck lift. Today I drove a Bad Boy Outlaw XP with the 35HP 4 cylinder Perkapillar 1.6 liter. Checked out a site on this forum and the report was very good on that engine. 6000 hr engine!! Good strong 16 cc Hydro Gear pumps with separate reservoirs and coolers for wheel drives. Very well built deck. Nice Grammer suspension seat. Very accessible and impressive mower. Except the deck lift is a little electric linear actuator and the deck drive is just one long B belt that runs from the horizontal crankshaft down at the very back, bends 90 degrees forward to the maze of deck drive pulleys. Seems like a pretty lame way of lifting and driving a BIG heavy deck with 35 HP compared to other companies with much less power and not diesel power. I really like what I see about this Bad Boy except a couple of these things that look under designed . It also costs about $1400 more than the diesel Kubota. Any experience with these mowers out there? TIA.

John Deere 1780 conservation maxemergeplus

Please help. We have a 1780 31 row conservation that we cannot get the wing wheels to work correct and have issues unfolding. We have had john Deere out for 6 to 8 hours and they are out of ideas (mechanics and device manager). We put a new ISO 9 pin plug on the planter end and have tried a new one on the tractor (it has the new terminator as part of it). If we hold the planter plug up and half way to the lock ring locked it works some of the time so we tried sticking the pins in without the plug and still have issues. Don't know if need a different controller in tractor, terminator inside of cab, or terminator on planter. Monitor saies control box missing.

Anyone quit inoculating Legumes

Have any farmers run legume inoculation trials and found no difference in nodulation between inoculated and non-inoculated plots.
I am particularly interested in independent Chickpea trial results in Australian soils, but any other trial results on other legumes in other countries would be of interest too.
Sourcing non-agenda data is proving difficult.
I do realize that soil types, soil treatment history, fertilizer history, field crop history, etc all have a bearing on this.

Are you a custom harvester in a small state? I need your help!

I'm an undergraduate researcher from TIAER at Tarleton State University. I'm hunting custom harvesting rates from small states that don't generally get reported through NASS, or through extension services. I'd like to pair people with surveys that accurately reflect their respective states, so that will probably be on a case by case basis. I don't need anyone's name, and I don't want to publish anything. I'm just collecting information for farm economic models we're working on. New England is a huge blank spot. The coastal states are also a little thin. If any of you want to help, I'd appreciate an email at swmod05@tiaer.tarleton.edu. If you have any questions, by all means, holler at me.

Ag leader/PFS data

Im having some trouble with our ag leader integra monitor in our sprayer. I have been using PFS 12.5 to manage all my data for a few years now importing and exporting without any issues. However i recently exported all our field data to the integra and have an issue with swath location. When you load the AB line for each field there is a swath offset of 14m. This must be cleared each time to 0 in order for our tracks to be in the correct location. Has anyone had similar problems with ag leader monitors or would this more likely be a bug with PFS and i should upgrading to farm works

Thanks

4790 Baler ejector sucks!

Bought a new to us 4790. Its one of the late ones (06-07 I think). The previous owner used the bale ejector to extract a bale but never retracted it back. Now I cannot get the thing to retract. According to the book I've done everything right. PTO not running, hydraulics on, flip the switch.......nothing. We have a 3 bale accumulator hooked to the thing. It works fine. The book says to put the ejector/accumulator switch in the ejector position. I cannot find that switch on this baler and I'm guessing that would be a feature on the older balers with a manual valve. Mine has the electrical connections to solenoids. I've got power at the switch and constant power at all the solenoids (which doesn't make sense to me). All the others I've ever seen only have power when you want to activate the coil. Perhaps a problem? But the accumulator works fine with this setup. It's confusing as heck. Anyone with an idea please let me know. This baler has the Fieldstar monitor and I have made sure that the ejector option is activated in the settings. Thanks for any info.

Help with Spra-Coupe 7650 and Envizio Pro

Just trying to figure out a new to me Spra Coupe 7650 with Envizio Pro. I can't get the rate bump buttons to work. I have them activated and they are on the display however they don't respond when I touch them. I've done a touch screen calibration and everything else seems to work fine. I've set my rate adjust increment at 2 gal.

I also can't get more than about 70 psi out of the pump. I've read the manual several times and can't find anything about adjusting this. I'm running 11002 nozzles and the flow control valve is working fine.
-Doesn't seem to matter if the sparge valve is open or closed.
-The bypass valve is also closed.
-The strainers are clean.

I see there is a set screw on top of the hyd motor. Is this a flow control or?

Just not quite sure what I'm missing. Thanks.

So...think your drill applies seed/fertilizer evenly?

Steve Larocque is a recognized agronomist, has travelled and spoke around the world.
I personally know Steve and in fact he lives in Three Hills.
Steve has been wondering about distribution on large drills and took some measurements this spring which he published in his most recent weekly newsletter:

Accurate metering but poor distribution

Today's air drills aren't delivering

When it comes to metering seed and fertilizer on todays air drills I like to think we’ve come a long way. Today’s air carts can meter large volumes of seed and fertilizer with varying densities fairly accurately. However, the real problem is not the metering of product but the distribution of that product once it leaves the meters and enters the air stream. My partner in crime Oscar and I set out to measure the performance of five popular air drills.

The air drills we chose were a 60ft Morris Contour 2 with 8 Series 650 tank, 56ft John Deere 1870 with 1910 tank, 76ft Bourgault 3320 with 6700 tank, 70ft New Holland P2070 with P1070 tank and a 70ft SeedHawk with the 800 tank. We zip-tied socks on one long and one short hose coming off the same manifold on the left wing, right wing and center section (six socks in total). We then engaged the clutch for 10 seconds and measured the weight of the product in each sock to compare. From there we calculated the average product weight of all six runs and then measured the difference of each run from the average.

Disclaimer: This experiment was NOT a true scientific test but provides an awesome starting point for discussion.

If you look at the table above you’ll see that each drill has a large degree of variance in product distribution and in many cases on the same distributor, not just from wing to center section. The cells marked in yellow show the lowest amount of product delivered below the average. The blue cells show the highest amount of product delivered above the average. I’ve included the spread between highest and lowest product distribution to show the degree of variance. Here is a summary:

Every air drill had a great deal of variance in product distribution across the drill and in many cases on the same manifold. The range in distribution for all the drills was 29% to 98%. Meaning, some shanks received 29% less than other shanks and up to 98% more than others. Yikes! (Yes, we checked for plugs and obstructions in the lines.)
The best performer in this test was the Morris 8 Series 650 tank with a low of 12% below the average and high of 17% above the average for product distribution. Coincidently, Morris is the only drill with a different manifold design that doesn’t force product to turn 90 degrees when it leaves the primary hoses.
The drill with the largest degree of variance in product distribution was the Bourgault 6700 at 98% between low and high product rates. One shank delivered 71% less product than the average with another shank delivering 27% more than the average.
To be fair, if the issues were corrected on the Bourgault, its variance would be in line with the SeedHawk and John Deere.
The Bourgault and John Deere drills delivered more product to the center section compared to the wings.
The John Deere delivered more product to the center section compared to the wings and had a 45% difference in product distribution from low to high.
The NH P1070 tank was second to the Morris at 33% variance from high to low.
The short hoses on the P1070 delivered more product than the long hoses regardless of position on the frame.
The SeedHawk was in third place on the list with a 41% variance from high to low product rates.
The SeedHawk delivered more product to the wings compared to the center section.
In the end, this little investigation has confirmed my suspicion. Very often there are wide variances in product distribution across rows, distributors, center sections and wings. The Morris 8 Series 650 tank was the most consistent of all the drills. As I mentioned before, Morris is the only drill that uses a different distributor system compared to the other four drills, which use the same style. What surprised me most was the difference from wings to center sections where some drills like John Deere deliver more while other drills like SeedHawk deliver less product to the center sections. Perhaps some repositioning may fix some of this issue.

What is clear from this test is that product distribution technology needs to advance. Why meter product down to the kernel only to lose all accuracy by the time it hits the opener? The best drill in this test still had a 29% difference in product distribution. That’s equal to one opener receiving 20 lbs/ac of starter phosphorus (P205) and another receiving 30 lbs/ac. With nitrogen it would be equal to one opener receiving 80 lbs/N/ac and another receiving 98 lbs/N/ac. On the other drills the differences would be worse.

Note: SeedMaster, which we didn’t get a chance to measure, has an edge over the drills we tested due to its UltraPro meter, which sends seed directly from the meter to the opener with no towers in between. However, SeedMaster still uses a manifold system like the other drills we tested to distribute fertilizer, so it’s possible that it has the same variance as the drills we tested.

From this study I think it’s high time for the seeding tool industry play catch up and start matching the accuracy of distribution to the accuracy of their metering. Good enough is no longer good enough, especially when you consider the $130,000 to $250,000 price tags on these air carts. If we truly want to elevate yields, I believe that every furrow should have equal access to the right amount of seed and fertilizer. It's clear to me now that we have some serious distribution issues to overcome. SL

Big thanks to Jerry Berreth from JHB Farms who graciously loaned me three pairs of his socks to use in this experiment.

Hmm...
So...think your drill applies seed/fertilizer evenly?

Can 9600 JD handle a Mac Don D60S ?

After learning about Mac Don headers over the last week, I realized the first question is can my 9600 pick up a 25 or 30 ft Mac Don? So, I called Mac Don and the weight of a D65 is 5673 lbs, adapter included but not guage wheels. Mac Don does not recommend any of their headers on a 9600, just 9650 and higher. But, I looked into this forum and some threads talk about heavy lift cylinders are on a 9600 *if* it has planetary final drives. My questions are now:
(1) How do I tell if my 9600 has planetary final drives /and or heavy lift cylinders?
(2) If my 9600 has heavy duty lift cylinders etc, is that required to lift a 25 or 30 foot D60S (drapper only, not flex)?
(3) How are Mac Don's 25 and 30 foot drapers compared to an 8 row JD row head (weight compare)
(4) Do I need to upgrade my duals? I have 38" x 18" duals good ones, but the trend is the taller (42" ?)
Thanks in advance!

I'm New here looking for help. We bought a '88 R 50 and the throttle stop ( not actual internal governor) was set to stop at about 2150 rpm. Owners manual says its high idle speed should be 2625 to 2725 rpm. Does anyone know why the throttle would be limited to 2150 rpm? Is this a sign of something the previous owner was trying to avoid damaging. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Krone V12 hydraulic issue

Im having an issue with my Krone V12 hydraulics. All the hydraulic functions on the big valve stack on the right side of the machine will not function. I have had the hydraulic pump tested to supply oil to the valve stack and it tested good and we are getting 12 volts to the solenoids.

We bypassed the priority valve for the brakes and went directly from the pump to the valve stack and the functions will work then and the pump will put out 2000psi on a pressure gauge.

Figured we had it narrowed down to a bad priority valve so we put a new one on and it worked for a little while and then did the same thing again where none of the valve stack functions will not work.

any help appreciated,

Tyler

Frost Tolerance

Hey guys. So we have about 400 acres of sugar beets up right now jus putting on true leafs. forecast is showing anywhere from 25-30 for tonight/tomorrow morning. I know for you guys up in Canada that is warm:22: but in ND for May 19 record is 29. We are just coming off 5 inches of rain in the last 8-9 days. Anyone have any idea how cold these beets can withstand before i'm replanting and any overall info from you boys in Canada that deal with these freezing temps on a regular basis. Thanks!
