Hello all, new to the forum and looking for a bit of advice. We are looking to change the seed boots and openers on our 1996 concord 4010 drill. Currently running farmland boots with the back swept knife for double shooting, and using a 4 inch bourgault knock on shovel for the opener. We would have liked to upgrade the drill but don't really see the benefit unless we can swing an independent opener drill, which would likely need a different tractor or tractor upgrades regarding the hydraulics (Case IH 9270) so that seems out for this year any ways. We are looking at the Dutch universal series 3.5 inch, 3/8 separation (2825) or the 3 inch, 3/8 separation (2718) tips. As I stated, our drill is a 4010 - ten inch spacing - c shank - with the bias ply tires for packers. Tires are stamped 5.9 x 15, but 5.9 certainly won't be the ground contact area. Have some concerns that the 3.5 inch will likely spread out to around 4 inches, which may be a bit wide for the packer contact area, which will put the seed in the shoulder of the packer row, while the 3 inch may put the seed more in the bottom of the packer row. Anyone compare these two on a drill of this type, or have any suggestions regarding these. Any and all comments, advice etc. gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.
