Deere 4WD Drive Shaft Failure Notice

Was talking to my service manager and he said they just got notice this week of an issue with 4WDs. The drive shaft that goes from the transmission to the front diff can fail and wipe out the hydraulics at the rear of the engine (pumps, valves, etc).

Affects 9100-9400, 9x20, 9x20 Scraper, 9x30, 9x30 Scraper, 9R's. So basically everything they've made in the last 20 years. On our 2 units (9300 and 9400), only the 9400 is affected because the 9300 doesn't have autotrac integrated. So that may be a deciding factor...

The dealers are to inspect ALL 4WDs by Aug 1 and change any u-joints and/or driveshafts that are showing failure signs. Then, once engineering has a shield designed, they will have to go back and install the shield on all these 4WDs.

Also, We are to limit road gear to max of D2 (I think it was 16 for an 18speed powershift).

WOW!!!! For JD to be going back and fixing a nearly 20 year old tractor, I'm guessing something major happened and they found themselves on the wrong end of a major lawsuit?????

Anyone else heard anything?
