STX 535 quad powershift question, is this normal?

I have a 08 quad I just bought and it seems to shift weird especially when it skips gears, very noticeable from 6th to 8th and from 8th to 10th. If I shift one gear at a time the problem still is noticeable but not as much. When it shifts there is a lag, it seems as though the driving clutch pack disengages and the re-engaging clutch pack doesn't take hold soon enough and I feel a rough shift. The trans has been recalibrated twice and it doesn't matter if its under a load or not. Shifting in the upper gears seems very smooth. The shifting in the lower gears is no where near as smooth as my 05 325 and 450. Could a shift solenoid be bad? The trans doesn't seem to slip, it pulls an 11 shank 870 and packer just fine, its just got that delay in between shifts that doesn't seem rite to me, but I know its got different software than my other tractors so I'm not sure if this is normal. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

5100 Draper

I am currently looking at two different heads for my R75. I am leaning towards a 5100 but I have a few concerns. First, has anyone ever used a 5100 in peas without a pea auger? It has the same feeding auger as a dynaflex also so has anyone used a dynaflex in peas without a pea auger? How convenient are the slow speed transports to use? I will be using these quite a bit getting in and out of fields and moving down the highway so I don't really want to end up having to go buy a header trailer because it's a pain in the ass to switch.

My second option is a Mac Don 962. I have the option to put a pea auger on it but I am also wondering how it would do without one.

I am leaning towards the 5100 simply for the fact that I know it won't have the feeding problems of the 962 due to the faring strips that are set up for a Gleaner to work like it should and also because the 5100 will work on my lateral tilt. The only problem is they are both in great shape but the 962 is a little over half the price of the 5100. What would you guys do and what should I be looking for on these heads? I have only been around newer Macdons and I also had an older honeybee.

Pro 700 Sectional Control- Accucontrol

Hi,

I just bought a 2012 NH 1070 Sprayer that I plan to pull with a 290 Magnum w/ Pro 700 Monitor. From what I have found on the internet I THINK I can run sectional control with the accucontrol unlock but its very fuzzy. Will this allow me to control the rate with the 700? All that came with the sprayer is a toggle box to manually turn sections on/off similar to the flexicoil controls, but there was no rate control box so I assume the previous owner must have controlled the unit with an outside GPS monitor. CNH does a poor job of giving access to information on the internet. I tried talking to the guys at New Holland but they didn't provide much help other than to run the sprayer with a virtual terminal and have no section control or coverage mapping. The auto height is controlled with a separate raven monitor.

What other software might I need on the Pro 700? This is a base unit that has only the most basic software installed on it.

Yellow Delta Track

Was heading north on I-29 just north of Fargo yesterday and saw what looked like a Delta Track painted yellow with no decals or other distinguishing features heading south on a truck yesterday. Of course it kinda caught me off guard so I kinda looked at it in a double take at 70 mph. Wondering if anyone knows anything about this creature.

Advice on Hydrant placement

I am building a 60x40ft pole shed this summer. Will be used for horses and part of it for my shop. Concrete floor, gas tube radiant heaters. I want to place the hydrant inside the shop, but have a few concerns about placing it inside for the future.

1. Sink holes forming under building...not likely due to clay ground, but non the less something I think about.

2. Replacement....if it need to be replaced, cant do it, due to concrete.. will need to place a new one outside anyway

What do you do? any advice.

JD W260 or MF WR9870

I'm just looking for some opinions here. What would you consider to be a better swather, the new John Deere W260 with 500R rotary header, or the new Massey Ferguson WR9870 with the Razor Bar rotary header? I drove the Massey Ferguson last year and I really liked it, but this year, I will be driving the new John Deere. What are your experiences with these two swathers, and how have you liked them? What are the main differences, good and bad?

Soybean seed inoculant

I have my soybean seed treated with inoculant regardless of planting continuous back to back soybeans. Mostly because in the past it was so cheap. But, the price keeps going up and up. I have been told inoculant is only needed when planting new land or maybe the first two seasons of back to back beans. Was wondering what everyone else out there does and why.

Cat 3176 only starts with ether

Have a customer truck in the shop and trying to figure out a no start issue.

Truck cranks like crazy but won't start unless it gets a sniff of ether.

Doesn't matter whether it was running and shut off for only a half second. Always needs ether.

When it is running, it runs fine and it will run all day until shut off.

Getting active injector current faults on all 6 injectors while running.

Cylinder cutout test works fine.

It's a 1992 7LG 3176

All this is leading me to think that the ECM is shot. Which is weird since I can connect to it and it does run.

Have not installed sight glass in fuel system since I don't think it would lose prime that fast. Plus when I pump the primer hand pump it's stiff right away.

I have checked the timing sensor. It is receiving and sending proper voltage during no crank and cranking conditions.

Any other opinions?

Hi,

Just wondering if i run a hydraulic splitter would i have enough flow to run 2 fans on a dual 2320 flexi coil setup?? Will heat be an issue?? We usually run the single fan around 4500 - 4800 rpm. The 895 also has a seperate case drain for the hydraulics.

Seed hawk drill w/ two seedhawk carts

So my question is specific to seed Hawks. I have a 50 foot seedhawk with 500 tow behind cart with one fan and mechanical meters, both are 2008. My tractor is a nh t9.450 with standard Hyd pump 45 Gpm. Four hyd circuits.

My tool bar has the small rubber option on the rear so going to a bigger cart isn't an option, so I am considering getting a second tow between seed hawk cart, I have a line on a used one with twin fans and hyd meters.

Question. Do the two fans on the newer cart run off of one hyd circuit? If so can I disconect the second fan ( I won't need it) and plump in the hyd lines to the fan on my older cart that is tow behind, and then run the fans on both carts on one circuit. If not will my tractor have the hyd flow to run one fan on each cart using its own hyd circuit

I just wanna be sure this is doable without upgrading my tractor

Intercropping Peas and Canola

I've been tossing around the idea of intercropping canola with peas and was wondering if anyone has had any real experience with it? What kind of seed rates/plant populaiton did you aim for? What variety canola did you use that has similar enough growing season? Would you do it again? I am assuming we will have to seed peas and our alpine/anhydrous onto wheat stubble that had the lemken go over last fall, and broadcast our sulfur and canola before harrowing it in as our drill is only set up to meter one dry product.

Active Header Height Control Problem

We have a 2008 9770 with a 2012 635D header, we had to replace the main wiring harness on the LHS of the machine to get all the controls on the header to work (including the dual zone float). I was hoping that would also fix this issue but no luck. The Active Header Height control seems to work normally except that, the header will slowly rise up about 6 inches or so and then suddenly drop back down to the setpoint height. I've tried equalizing the float system and calibrating everything but it still happens. Any ideas?

Flexi 3450 tank rebuild

Hi, recently started a big project rebuilding my tank. All new manifolds and seals etc. rebuilt kit for one of the meter boxes. Took back tank middle tank meter boxes out completely. Need to grind rust of and possibly grid some off where the boxes meet the hopper plates. Question has anyone done such a rebuild before. One thing I'm looking at is repaint the meter boxes and other items. Metal items I'm buffing and possibly sand blasting. The meter boxes are white metal and from what I read walnut shells would be the safest thing on aluminum. My original plan is once everything is cleaned to use a good primer then use boxliner spray/rubber guard. It got the smooth surface stuff. I'm thinking since a guy can't powder coat that this stuff may be very effective since it's very durable and can't see fert eating it away. Is this a bad idea. Curious if anyone has done a ptoject like this before? Thanks

Dryland farming questions.

I'm taking possession of a farm on the 15th of April that has some dryland. It has been fifty percent summerfallow for the last several years. This year is going to be a very busy year for me so I'd like to do as little work as possible to this land. Personally I'd like to continue with the summerfallow because it seems to produce the best results in this area. My family has tried continuous cropping on dryland with disastrous results in the past. We have a cultivator with shovels for weed control or I could get it sprayed if I needed to.

I'm thinking of just planting barley as I know it a bit and if I plant the right variety it may make malt? If not it can be sold to the farm for feed.

The dryland is located in a fairly remote area almost surrounded by prairie and I'm thinking it might be a good candidate for organic crops but that'll be in the future. I think I'd also like to experiment a bit with tillage radish and see if I can improve moisture retention and such.

These are pretty exiting times for me as this will be my first wholly owned farm, I'm a mechanic by trade but have lot's of ideas. Hopefully I don't bankrupt myself the first year :).

Thanks for any input and ideas, there are allot of very successful dryland farmers out there so I know it's possible.

Herbicide carryover on Faba Beans

Just read in Grainews that Tundra is on the no no list for lentils and we're supposed to follow lentil recommendations not field peas. I used Tundra in 2014 and according to the label its 22 months for lentils and 10 for field peas. Anybody have experience with this? I'm in the Black soil zone, very wet heavy land, 6-8.5% organic matter, about 15" of rain during the growing season and the ground was worked last fall and will be again before seeding trying to dry it out and deal with ruts.

Thinking New Holland FR700?

Was wondering if you guys could give me your opinions on a 2015 FR700? We currently run Deere's and have no major complaints with them other than they are built too light and green paint has always been pretty expensive! We wanted to give the new 8000 series a year or two to work out bugs, because there will be bugs. So we have been deciding on whether to try out another NH. They look like they are headed in the right direction, they seem to be built to last. We use to run FX's which is why we now run Deere's . So any input you guys have would be great! Thanks in advance!

Stealth opener plugging prevention?

Hi there, wondering if anyone has ever had a fix for the banding tip on a stealth open. I use a 3.5 inch paired row 9 inch spacing on a flexi. I know the obvious answer is get a new opener. Trust me Id love to but with all the money I;m sinking into rebuilding the manifolds and meter boxes I kinda wanna avoid buying 10 grand worth of new openers. Next year. I never have issues with the seed runs plugging and if they do only one plugs and at least seed is still coming out of the other row. Anyhow, I;ve read some snippets about using shims/spacers/washers on the top bolt. I've also changed the banding tip to a Gen Manufacturing tip. Its a gumbo with a much larger heal and it did help improve somewhat. For Flexicoil and GEN 300 openers (GEN 49-1?, GEN 74-2?, GEN 59-3? point) | Wearpoints | Wearpoints

Old Cummins Boost ?

We have a single axle 83 Ford L9000 with a 855 cummins 240hp it seems pretty doggy when pulling a load, so I put a boost gauge in it, the most pressure I get is 7 maybe 8 psi at 2000 rpm. My question is this normal because it's a low hp engine or is my turbo getting bad, I did pull the intake hose off and the shaft doesn't wiggle and no sign of it dragging on the housing. Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi guys

I am looking for a Header driving job in Australia for the up and coming harvest season.

since my last employment at a Agricultural dealership in 2005 I started up two business's . One was a Logistics company owning and operating lorry's .The other business was an agricultural contracting business.

I am quite capable of fixing & maintaining all types of agricultural & construction machinery.

Ideally I would like a Combine/Header driving job as ide like to experience the Australian way of farming as it is completely different to the UK way.

I am a very hard worker and I am usually the 1st up in the mornings and cant wait to get going.

Im very passionate about farming as I have been from a very early age growing up on my parents livestock farm.

I always look to better my knowledge of different farming methods and I take pride in my work .

Im looking for a PTO speed reducer that is light and small and will run the spinners on a 3 point hitch fert spreader. Want to reduce large spline 1000 to 540. I have a big rodono reducer but its way too big and too much to take on and off every time I want to spread fert. looking for a small lower power unit. I would rather leave the rodono on the auger tractor .

I generally don't like these chain type emails nor do I have any idea if this story is exactly true but I have no doubt this does happen and probably more than we think.

Let's see if you send it back. We all know or knew someone like this!!

One day, when I was a freshman in high school,

I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school.

His name was Kyle.

It looked like he was carrying all of his books.

I thought to myself, 'Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday?

He must really be a nerd.'

I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged

my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him.

They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt.

His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him...

He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes .

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye.

As I handed him his glasses, I said, 'Those guys are jerks.'

They really should get lives.

'He looked at me and said, 'Hey thanks!'

There was a big smile on his face.

It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived.

As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before.

He said he had gone to private school before now.

I would have never hung out with a private school kid before.

We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books.

He turned out to be a pretty cool kid.

I asked him if he wanted to play a little football

with my friends.

He said yes.

We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know

Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.

Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again.

I stopped him and said, 'Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!

He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years,Kyle and I became best friends.

When we were seniors we began to think about college.

Kyle decided on

Georgetown and I was going to Duke.

I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never

be a problem.

He was going to be a doctor and I was going for business on a football scholarship.

Kyle was valedictorian of our class.

I teased him all the time about being a nerd.

He had to prepare a speech for graduation.

I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak.

Graduation day, I saw Kyle.

He looked great.

He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school.

He had filled out and actually looked good in glasses.

He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him.

Boy, sometimes I was jealous!

Today was one of those days.

I could see that he was nervous about his speech.

So, I smacked him on the back and said, 'Hey, big guy, you'll be great!'

He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled....

'Thanks,' he said.

As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began ...

'Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years.

Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends....

I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them.

I am going to tell you a story.'

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the first day we met.

He had planned to kill himself over the weekend.

He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home.

He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.

'Thankfully, I was saved.

My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable.'

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment.

I saw his Mom and Dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile.

Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions.

With one small gesture you can change a person's life.

For better or for worse.

God puts us all in each others lives to impact one another in some way.

Look for God in others.

You now have two choices, you can:

1) Pass this on to your friends or

2) Delete it and act like it didn't touch your heart.

As you can see, I took choice number 1.

'Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.'

There is no beginning or end. Yesterday is history.

Tomorrow is a mystery.

Today is a gift.

Determined and Persistent Porcupine

Had a fresh skiff of snow the other morning and by a trailer of oats I have an small auger under to fill pails for some calves, all the tell tale signs of a porcupine visit. It's one of my A train pups, since being open underneath, between the wind and deer there is a bit of oats laying around under the trailer and around the hopper, so it has been a magnet for deer and every rodent still alive in the yard. Birds too.

Porcupine anywhere near the yard or corrals, are like bears and skunks, shot on sight. So I figured since it was such an easy trail to follow, after I fed the young stock, I grab the 22 and go for a walk. Up the hill, thru the bush and out into a stubble field behind the yard. At this point I'm wishing I had the Gator, when I realize the tracks lead across the field...well that's it, hoof it back to the yard and get some wheels. traded in the 22 for one of the 303s as well, figured might have to do some distance shooting and I wanted my scope and something with some horespower in the barrel lol.

Back out to the stubble field, and start heading further out than been earlier, when I realize I am following several sets of tracks, or whats left of them, visible from the ice left in the paw prints. This dam thing been going back and forth for a while it appears. Follow the tracks to a fenceline, they then follow the fence, thru a gate and then start across a pasture. By this time I've come to the conclusion, I know where I'm gonna end up....and sure enough, half a mile from the yard, thru bush and across fields, the tracks end at a brush pile of willows I pushed up several years ago when clearing a fenceline. Tracks go right up the pile and near the middle they go down into the depths of the pile. I'm screwed now, no way I can get at the nest, pile over ten feet tall. The thought of burning it out crossed my mind, but then that's why the pile is still there, sitting on moss on the edge of a lake bottom, ground fire something I don't need.

I stood there almost admiring and respecting the work and determination that porcupine had went thru, just to get a tummy full of oats. I grabbed the one pic posted here with a smile and I said screw it and went home. But I wasn't smiling after I get back home. Standing at the fence I can tell something not right with a few cows...oh oh, think I know whats up...climb over fence and go look, well guess the second pic tells that story:eek:

I haven't decided what to do, have some traps I might set up, but I am definitely keeping an eye out for that porcupine. I feel like an idiot because I saw it earlier this winter when hauling hay, but it was another quarter of a mile south of that brush pile at the time, I'm sure its the same one. Was there last year too, saw the bark chewed last spring. But I have never seen or known of one that would travel half a mile one way, back and forth, over hill and dale, repeatedly like that for food...almost makes me hesitant to trap or kill it...that is one persistent porcupine.

Never a dull moment around here:)

Critter Problem

The building my shop is in is devided in two sections. 45x45 finished and 45x45 gravel floor. I have a critter that is digging holes under the concrete and digging his way to outside the building. He is getting behind the walls in the shop too. I setup a trail cam and got a pic of a rat but he won't touch any kind of food I set out. Corn, cat food ,bacon nothing. I tried regular rat traps...leg hold traps to no avail. It will dig around and under pallets that I have out in the gravel....I am stumped. I gotta believe it is something other than the rat I took a pic of . The holes he digs are about 2 inches in diameter. Any thoughts on how to catch this thing if it won't eat anything is set out! I am worried of an infestation if I cant get rid of it. I put our worthless cat out there for a few nights and he apparently is afraid of it. He will get mice and I seen a few rats he has brought up but he must be scared of whatever is out there ...lol

Just curious, is there any reason why PDFs would be limited to 20kb?

That is pretty darn small for a pdf. I had put together a guide for a few guys and can't even host the 1.35MB file (it has a few pictures in it) on the forums.

I could just host it in .jpg pictures (only a few pages), but that seems kind of overkill for what should be pretty easy.

Patriot Smartrax issues

Looking for some help here We have a Patriot 4410 with a stand-alone Smartrax controller and RGL600 lightbar. We have suddenly lost autosteering control on the machine. Everything was working fine, then it just stopped physically steering. The lightbar and controller are receiving GPS signal and indicating the line, but there is no steering input. The pressure transducers are disengaging the controller when the steering wheel is turned either way, and we can also manually steer the wheels while moving with the Smartrax controller. Is there something that we are over looking that may cause this problem? I would appreciate any advice.

Jump to all grain

Hello all,

I am looking to make the leap to all grain. I mean I have helped others with all grain so I know what I am doing. But looking at some of the extract recipes I have been working with and love (Belgian Tripel) there is a grain steeping step for Belgian aromatic grain. I have already converted the LME and DME to grain (just deciding on what base grain now), but I am not sure how that aromatic grain plays into the mashing, sparging, strike water setup.

Does it still steep in something somewhere? or does it get added to the mash?

Thanks!

Here is what I am working with recipe wise:

6.6 lbs of Light LME coverted to 8.8 - 9lbs of Belgain Pale, Carmel pils, or Biscut malt (undecided)

3lbs of DME Pilsen coverted to 4.5 lbs of Pilsen malt

1lb of Belgian Candi sugar

4 oz of Belgian Aromatic (converted to ??? if needed)

1 oz Northern Brewer Hops at boil

1 oz Goldings (unsure which yet) at 5 minute

Seeding tips and lifehacks

Hi guys, I'm fairly new to the farming business. It's been extremely fun and adventurous so far.

I'm making this thread so everyone can share tips and life-hacks when it comes to seeding time. They can be generic or equipment specific. I'm thinking along the lines of:

- a certain schedule you follow that works for you

- staying awake and alert during night shift

- keeping yourself motivated to go outside and do that walk-around on day 20

- spotting potential problems before they happen

- which weather conditions to shut down, or keep going

- your check-list that you go through before starting seeding/going in or out of transport mode etc..

Basically anything that your experience has taught you that you can teach us new comers :)

Right now I'm driving a John Deere duo track 9430t and pulling a Bourgault 3320.

Upgrading my N6 P1

Well, I pulled the rotor out today. Have ordered all new cyl. bars and channels. Any tips on putting this all together? Need to mention that I'm going with all forward bars in the separating end.

This maybe a dumb question, but do you guys leave out some helicals in the bottom when you install the F2 bar? If so how does this affect material flow? With this being mostly a wheat machine do I need the extra tumbling that the F2 bar would create? Could I just use one of my old cylinder bars instead of the F2? I know I would have to trim off the smooth part.

Man that is a lot of questions!

1680 Rotor bars

I am working on a 1680. We got the rotor out and found that the middle row of straight bars are missing. All 4 of them are off. A couple of the mounts where they bolt up are pretty damaged. Does anyone know why they would of been removed and do they need to be put back on. My AI kit that I got has enough bars to install them on there so we are assuming they need to be put on. We didn't know if this was for different crop or for some kind of performance.

Also has anyone ever repaired the mounts on the rotor or know of a part# we can cut the old one out and weld a new one on.

Canola and fertilizer placement

I am looking for some imput in regards to fertilizer placement when seeding my canola. I fall applied my NH3 so my nitrogen is taken care of. I have a bourgault 5820 drill with MRB's. Row spacing is 9.8 inches and I use a 3/4 inch opener. Based on soil tests, I am increasing my phosphate levels this year. The blend I am using is MES 15 with extra sulfur in it. My blend includes applying 35 #'s of phosphate and I am concerned about putting that much phos down in seed row. I have been assured that it is safe to do so, as the phos is MES 15 is different and safer than the phos in 11-52-0 . I have the option to apply my blend ( all or part of ) down through my MRB's and some in the seed row, and I am looking for opinions on whether I should do this or not.

Best Nozzles for AIM Command

I know this has been discussed multiple times before, however, it's been 4 years since I've had a red sprayer with AIM Command (yes, it took 4 years to switch out of green). That being said, I'm looking for the best fit for what I'm spraying.

* 10 gpa in all products/situations

* corn and soybean burn down applications are early preplant surface applied (Keystone NXT is the corn primary and Valor XLT is the soybean primary)

* I'd like to spray at 12 mph, though my mind tells me to slow down to 10 and my excitement when spraying gets me up to 13-14.

* I'd prefer to be in the 35-45 psi range to limit drift, though I know that somewhat depends on the nozzles, droplet size, etc.

* soybean post is glyphosate

* corn post is Impact & atrazine

The machine I'm getting will only have single nozzle bodies on it. The last machine I had I used TeeJet XR11008 (white) nozzles for the entire season. I sprayed 12,000 acres of varying products at various times and had excellent coverage and control.

Any ideas/tips/advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Splitting a 2.5" hose?

Finally getting to planning a urea boom to mount on the back of my TBT tank.

Here's a link to the previous discussion.

Going to divide each of the six 2.5" primaries into 2 runs to allow for more even spread pattern. Just wondering what size my secondaries should be? By my math two 1.75" hoses works out to the same area as one 2.5" hose. Just having a hard time finding 1.75" flex hose as some will run through pivot points. Would using 2" work instead? I'm thinking there should be enough velocity with 2"?

There would be 12-16' of pipe between the divider and the deflectors.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Bourgault 4000 coil packer.

I bought a bourgault 4000 with two wings (52ft) this winter and went to unfold it and noticed it stays in the transport position until its unfolded. This places a downward angle on the outermost wing as its unfolding and causes the inner coil packer (closest to the hinge) to hit the ground before its completely unfolded and dig in. Is this the way they operate or are they supposed to lower into field mode before unfolding? Just wondering if this is normal or do i need to look into the hydraulic relief valve on the unit? Cultivator sizing for 875 Versatile

As the title says. Ive been told its putting out 300 hp, but Im gonna be safe at 275 as its rated unless I personally see it dinoed.

I would say for the most part, we are in clay loam soils. Every now and then, I run into some heavy clay silts or sand, but thats easy enough to work around.

Ive figured on 42 foot being about right. Maybe a tad more, but I dont know.

Super B grain trailers

We are considering getting another set of super b's and just wondering what are the things to watch for with any of the more common brands and why a particular trailer is better than another. We have a couple sets of 08 doepker open end steels and like them other than the rust from stone chips associated with lots of gravel. Looking at doepker and load king steel as well as load king and Wilson aluminums. We only do our own farm hauling and put about 20000 Kms a year. Lots of loads just short hauls. Always in and out of the fields with poor approaches and sometime:eek: a tad overloaded! If there are other trailer that are better I'd like to know why. Seems like some new ones to the market rescently as well. Emerald, Centerline as well as others I can't remember. Thanks.

So now I'm looking for a CAT...

So now I am looking for a CAT, thinking about a D7H as a first choice option and either going up to an R or down to a G, depending on price and quality.

Are the G's that much harder to drive, then the ones with them joystick controls and diff steering?

Will an angle blade push trees as good as an S blade? Or is it weaker or less efficient? Can a SU blade push trees?

Are there any must haves when looking at a cat for clearing trees?

Thanks!

Air cart behind planter

Looking to get more capacity out of a 1700 john Deere planter with 1.6 bu boxes.

Would a simple dividing air system into the top of each box, from a tow behind air cart work? Or would the boxes get too uneven too quickly?

Thanks

Allis 8000 Series FWA

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the FWA for the AC 8000 series tractors. We are Allis people on our small farm and recently purchased a 8070 with FWA. (We have had it for two weeks now.) Is there anyway to actually know if the FWA is working rather than just pushing the toggle switch on the dash? We are wondering this because we can't feel it biting as it turns like you do on trucks in 4-wheel drive. The dealer said he messed with the wiring to get it to work. I would think the drive shaft going up to the front wheels should always be turning from the movement of the tractor tires. Any help is appreciated.

We don't want to drive it into mud to test it if the FWA is not working.

Right Openers?

I've decided to go with a Dutch Precision paired row opener, with NH3 and double shoot options. I have 3 inch flat packers, should I go with 3 inch or can I go with 3.5 inch openers. Want to narrow up the space between rows somewhat , find the swaths go down on the ground too bad with the 10 spacings. ( or maybe if I could just grow a decent crop for a change, there might be more of a swath to hold it up!!)

How far North

My wife and I are talking about travelling to the States to see the total eclipse of the sun in mid August 2017. I would like to get to see some of the wheat harvest whilst I am over there. How far north would custom harvester’s be expecting to be working by the middle of August in a normal year. Would any still be working in Nebraska.

Thanks in advance.

Running spray nozzles without screens

I have run the air bubble jet nozzles without screens for years and never had issues with plugged nozzles. I'm considering going to guardian air nozzle because they are half the price and studies show they do the same job. Am I going to run into problems running these nozzles without screens?

S690/680 shoe problem

Wondering if anyone else on here with a S690 or 680 has noticed if their chaffer has moved to the right side and is wearing hard on the inside of the combine?

We have 2-2012 690's with 600hrs, and one 2014 with 190hrs and all 3 have moved over, not to mention every one that I have looked at on dealers lots have moved as well, some worse than others. The problem seems to have started with the front left shaker arm, the frame where the arm is bolted is bent and the arm is not running parallel with the side of the combine causing the shoe to not run straight and bind and ultimately break apart and self destruct, not to mention wearing through the opposite side of the combine.

One has been at the dealership since November trying to figure out why it moved and wanting deere to come up with a fix but it seems they don't care as they claim "it is only this dealership that is having this problem".

So I was wondering if anyone else has seen this, if not to check and if the shoe is not centered you have a problem, let your dealer know so that hopefully they will start caring and do something about it.

Thanks :)

Great Plains 2S-2600 HD transport hitch weight?

Looking to find an approximate hitch weight for a GP 2s2600hd when folded in transport? Empty drill boxes.

I'd like to tow it with a Tigermate 200 cultivator, but fear I would have to tow it to the field separately and hitch it up at the field. Which I'd really rather not do if possible.

Any way to find out this spec?

Yamaha outboard motor ignition

I've just repowered my old fibreglass boat with a 2002 115hp outboard.

The motor starts and runs well but the ignition switch won't turn it off. Removing the clip on the emergency stop doesn't not stop either.

Black earth wire is good , red wire 12v , yellow switched 12v. White has 2.5v ignition off zero volt ignition on. White feeds the kill switch, with black on the other side.

Thanks in advance for anyone's thoughts before I replace the ignition switch .

Bins, Headers and CTF

Mate sent his 38t chaser bin to the guys at Oztec in Towoomba to develop a conveyor setup for other bins other than their own bin so you can stay in the tramlines while unloading on the run, my Oztec 30t tramliner is such a good bin this year will be its 7th wheat harvest without any issues with the platform so if the retro fit setup is as good it should be a good option, it won't be cheap 20-25K probably but I do think it's a better option tha extending your header auger at least if the bin breaks you can still harvest. Claas guys are looking at extending the auger on a couple of Lexions to do 12m unloading, this is a wild setup that involves at least 2m extension on a 3XL auger with an extra long boot at the end, with some of the investigating I have done the Horsch extension that folds had a few problems the first year but I havnt found any more reports about how it's going now. Case and New Holland both have augers that unload into 12m tramlines has anyone been running this setup and how is it going? Do you invisage any dramas? CTF is hard work but good results are achieved

Tractor Smoking?

Having trouble with a 8630 smoking at idle. Its been kinze powered and has a 855 cummins in it. Just put new injectors and had the head worked on (valves, etc), but now it smokes. Its white (I realize this usually=uncombusted fuel or water vapor). The tractor fires very nicely and the oil looks okay. No visible leakage anywhere from fluids.

It seems to smoke like all older tractors do when you hit the throttle fast and fluid the cylinders with fuel before the air can be pumped in to burn it properly, but it begins to burn clean after I have it pulling something and putting load on the engine. I have a couple theories, but I wanted to see what you all think.

Interested in switching to a Claas

Hi there, first time poster here, have read this site tho in the past. Last fall nearing the end of harvest, my JD 9650 STS was rear ended and destroyed by a semi. Now that all done up with insurance I;m in the midst of shopping and a new contender showed ump the CLAAS.

We farm up in East Central Saskatchewan. only farm about 1600 acres. Wheat, Canola, Barley and Oats. Was originally thinking a class 7 combine. Either 9770 STS, Case 7010/7120. Now one of our friends ended up buying a 570R. He ended up telling the Claas Dealer in Regina that we are gonna be looking for a combine now these guys have been all over us lol. However I do see some interesting things with a Lexion. However I am trying to browse this forum as much as I can and do some research about them. They are trying to sell us a 2009 580R with about 800 Sep/1000 Eng. To me I think its over kill for our farm as we have a 25 ft swather and 30 ft swather. However I;m looking for some honest opinions here as for any disadvantages, weaknesses, common problems etc. From what I found so far was rotor bearings. Other then that some people complained about turning, the monitor and the windshield wiper haha. But please if anyone whats to give me some honest tips I;d appreciate. Everything breaks and believe me after us have gleaners most of our farm life we're used to that but would kinda like to find something better. The JD I had was excellent and wish it would have been around longer but thats the way it goes. Thanks and hope to hear some thoughts from you guys.

storing/handling fababeans

Can fababeans be harvested dry or do you have to aerate them? Are splits a concern? Regular auger run slow or belt conveyor needed? The field I'm growing them in is 14 miles one way from my yard and across highway 2, I'm hoping to store them in flat bottoms at the field but there's no power on site (and it's ground zero for theft around Blackfalds so a gen set wouldn't last long enough to need refueling).
