We currently run a double electric liquid fertilizer pump set up on the smaller of our 2 liquid carts (ground drive on the other). We are running the set up with a Spray Mate II but without the butterfly valve installed. This would have been the ideal way to make it auto rate but with the auto pressure shut off safeties built into the pumps just fight the valve and surge. Valve closes when you slow down, pressure increases, pump senses too high pressure and shuts off, flow falls below set rate, butterfly opens to increase rate, pumps kick back on, and so on in a viscous circle.
Cart is used exclusively for starter fert, basically straight 10-34-0-0 with a few micros when needed. Have been only putting on min P past 12 years, recently bought the land (was renting same stuff before) so having pumps full out and "over applying" a nutrient I almost can't ever loose wasn't a big deal (pumps max out at 50 lbs/ ac P2O5)
Now want to build system so that full auto rate is possible. Mico-Trak makes a EMD (electric motor driver) that varies the DC voltage to achieve a speed adjusted rate on electric pumps. Apparently ties directly into the existing Spay Mate II controller and harness.
Does anyone have any feedback on the performance of this set up?
Thanks
