Seems I've heard a floating (not flex) 5100 draper header should be locked rigid in wheat. I have some short wheat starting out. Little rigid wheels on outsides of header limit height to about 10" minimum, which is real good for staying over rocks. But, if I leave header rigid, I think one of the outside wheels taking a bunch of weight (uneven ground here) would be tough on that tire, the header, and front of combine...thresher housing. Seems putting in float would allow adapter to minimize stress on header and front of combine. If I raise header above height for wheels to touch ground, does the header get squirrelly dipping and raising (in float), or does it run fairly stable and level? Couple days away from cutting, figured I'd take advantage of some folk's experience over trial and error after getting started. Would be nice to take advantage of outside wheels to keep from gouging ground, appreciate some pointers, thanks.
