Tractors, tires, and row spacing

I'm considering switching from 30" spacing on row crop to 15". I've been reading data that has proven (in their tests) that using a wide tire and planting a few rows in the wheels tracks yields better and has less compaction than going with a super ultra narrow tire, which I think is virtually impossible with 15" spacing. The data I've read is from Marion Calmer, Calmer Corn heads.

My question is: Is there research that exists that shows what tire to match to what tractor? Based on the size and weight of the tractor, the "normal" conditions of the field and the efficiency of the tire - lugging, compaction, fuel efficiency, etc.

For example: If the tractor being used is a high horsepower row crop tractor (300+ HP) that weighs in the high 30K #'s, would it be better to mount 520/46's on the rear or 620/46's, or something else? Also, does that tire selection stay the same or change if the tractor is an 4WD/Articulating and weighs more or a smaller row crop tractor that weighs less?

Right now tracks are out of the question. Thanks for the input.
