since its fathers day I thought I would give mine a thanks/praise.
I wont ever be able to fill my fathers shoes. He was a teacher, mentor, role model of how to be loving, tough, gentle, human, man of the earth, man of the church and of the community. He taught me to work hard, treat others kindly, love of life and have to laugh once in a while. I look at all the things he accomplished and I listen to when people around town talk about him and it makes me proud to be his son.
I think about the future and someday he wont be here any more. that is going to be a very hard time for me because now in life he is one of my best friends.
both my folks worked hard and did a great job of raising two wonderful men and one spectacular, handsome, amazing, generous, smart son.
I remember times when he had to get after us kids. you could see the hurt in him as he had to bring the pain.
they made it through the 80's when banks were pulling fast ones around here. they managed to keep the farm without letting us kids know how much struggle they were going through. and they managed to put us 3 boys through college.
Dad milked the cows and then went to his full time job only to come home to milk and do evening chores. between the 2 full time jobs and 3 kids he still managed to be on the city council or mayor of our city for most of my life. I don't think he missed many lions club meetings or events. He is also made it to 4th degree level in the Knights of Columbus. basically means for a lifetime he rarely missed a meeting and was always helping at events. The church is very grateful for all the things grandpa and dad have done for it over there lives. you cant go hardly anywhere in rock creek or pine city without his work being somewhere.
when they were milking the folks earned a wall of awards from land o lakes for quality and production.
even now at 71 years old he still runs a full time repair shop.
it makes a guy proud to be known as "skips boy" around town. for many years I didn't think anyone knew my first name. lol
the one picture is a guy brought this old john deere 440 two cylinder dozer. it had a bad head gasket and wouldn't run smooth and had a hard time turning left. he had it purring like an kitten. he was just have to much fun to simply hear it run. he drove it around the yard several times, parked it and then drove it 1 more time!
I bought the 8450 from my uncle, it was broke down and he didn't want to fix it. so we got it for scrap price and fixed it up. dad loves it, I am trying to go no till but I cant keep him and the mulch master out of the fields!! there will be a rut and he will be out there in a flash in the spring to touch that area up.
I had to work out of town for 3 years. he was there to help the wife and nephew do the field work. he is always there to come to my rescue when I am doing field work and need a hand.
he still loves doing hay. when I was young I remember the farm mags coming out to do an article on us. I got the 4020 up and running and he just loves that little tractor. so smooth and easy to drive.
he loves them steers, the pic is of the wife and him having a little meeting.
he babys them steers.
he has two daughter in laws. you know how proud he is of them and how much he cares for them two girls when you go somewhere and dad has already told a proud dad story about them.
