Attended this new farm show Tuesday and thought it was a great show.
While not as big as some of the others its at a time that is more relaxed then the Farm progress, and provided the opportunity to see demonstration plots of different varieties all in one area. The show also has equipment demos and ride and drives all on site.
While the organizers of this show have been running a similar one in the...

Rotoshear plumbing
Looking to install a pair of rotoshears on a Massey 220, and wondering where guys are drawing their oil flow from? Manual says reel drive return for a lot of makes and models, but have seen one 220 take from canvas drives. Do most put in a flow control valve for speed adjustment? Any tips for installation or operation?

30' FD 70 draper header
Just wondering everybody's opinion about a 30 foot macdon fd70 flex draper. I had a JD 635 draper and sold it because it was to big and heavy and awkward to handle in our hills. There is a 30 foot macdon flex draper coming up at an auction sale. It would be going on a 9770 and mainly cutting wheat. Never been around one before so I don't know anything about them. Are they a reliable header? Can I...
Gleaner r72 unload auger shake
I have a 1992 gleaner r72 that I just bought. Today I turned on the unload auger and it had a vibration at low idle but when it revved up to combine it continued to vibrate for a few seconds then the unload auger started to shake something fierce. Right away we pulled the fighting out thinking it was bent, but it seemed fine. The u joint that connects the 2 augers doesn't seem to have much play. Not...

New rasp bars for a 2188 specialty rotor

Harvest Services feeder chains better than factory?
We've wore out the feeder chains on both our combines (7120 and 7230) so I'm about to order some new ones. They are both 4-strand (evenly spaced) chains, serrated edges, u-shaped slats. 5100 floating header in wheat
Seems I've heard a floating (not flex) 5100 draper header should be locked rigid in wheat. I have some short wheat starting out. Tractors, tires, and row spacing
I'm considering switching from 30" spacing on row crop to 15". The data I've read is from Marion Calmer, Calmer Corn heads.

Western U.S. wheat
I just finished reading Thacker Harvesting article in Farm and Ranch Guide .Their run up from N.M.,Texas , Kansas and into Colorado has only been 5-25 bushel with some weight down to 54 lb. I thought that area routinely was better than that .There were earlier reports Texas had moved out of a drought situation in most of the state .Is this the normal for this year or are their customers just happening...

New found respect for true dryland farmers, and everything I did wrong this year...
During my short lifetime in my cold wet corner of the world, I never fully appreciated the challenges of farming when moisture is the limiting factor. Too much is nearly always my limiting factor. When I read, for example, something about the width of the opener affecting moisture loss, it all sounds like irrelevant hair splitting, till this year. Now I can see everything I did wrong that lost moisture....
Versatile ML930 precision air drill
Wondering if anyone has demoed this mechanical (non-hydraulic) precision independent opener seeding tool? ML930 is 40' and under ML950 is 40' and over, I'm interested in cost and accuracy and/or any issues? They've only been out since 2012. They seem like a less complicated and costly air drill then comparable tools on the market. Any feedback would be appreciated

Changing tires or tracks on a J&M cart.
I have a 1150 grain storm J&M cart. The Goodyear 900 tires on the cart need to be replaced after 5 years of use as the sidewall beads are tearing off the tire. Tires have leaked since day one and it is finally time to get rid of them.
I am going to replace with anything but goodyear, but since the cost is going to be significant, I was wondering if anyone has replaced tires on a cart with tracks....

WR 9740 DEF usage
Just wondering from real field experience how much DEF these machines are using. Will be running a new one this fall and need to decide which route to take to get set up for DEF. This is only machine on farm using it so far and don't have a whole pile of acres to cut so would only be putting on around 75 to 100 hours. Due to the shelf life of the fluid just wondering if it's worth going to bulk totes...
8010 Combine Dirty Grain
Last fall during the last half of the season our grain was too dirty with lots of little things in it ( leaves, small pieces of cobb, small pieces of stems). It seemed as though the air flow wasn't enough but the monitor showed the fan was running at the proper rpm. Lower sieve was wide open upper sieve was around 20 I think. Presieve 2 notches from wide open. I think there has to be something wrong...
Tri-Drive -Tridem Combo
Am considering purchasing a new Tri-Drive - Tridem Truck-Trailer Combo. I want to maximize payload when hauling either cleaned wheat seed or fertilizer. For those of you who know your axle weight allowances, does my Tri-Drive solution make sense ?

7720 Steering pivot x2
Hey folks, I just bought a nice 7720 and could not get my 643 up on the header trailer. Upon further inspection I noticed that an additional center pivot was added below the original one which is raising the rear of combine up, reducing the height of header lift. My question is what purpose would this serve? It looks like I can move steering axle to the upper (original) pivot and level combine while...

Hesston Discbine Crimper problems
We have a 8550S Hesston with a 8070 15 foot header. We have a problem keeping bearings in the helper roller on the crimper. JD 7810 linkage issue
G'day all,
I've got a 1998 7810 which the linkage sticks in the raised position.
Using it more often now with a spreader and is a pain to get down. Used to jump on it and would come down after a while, now using a loader to get it down and needs plenty weight to move it.
Anyone else have the same issue and do you live with it or is there repair option? Dealer here not very insightful.

JD 4400 handle tall rye ok?
Here in western pa a lot of folks cut rye with a haybine then bale it for straw. I can do that but I was wng if my diesel 4400 JD with a 213 head will handle tall rye and I would just combine it instead. This option has a couple advantages, one I will get the rye seed to replant and two it has more time in the field to to let thefileds dry and bleach out the straw before I cut it. What do you guys...
